If you are looking for a high-quality option, you should read my Emma Original Hybrid mattress review. This is the second release from the German maker and it’s definitely the better one.
After reviewing the Emma One mattress, I was keen to try their more premium option. As its name suggests, this is a hybrid mattress so it combines foam layers with pocket springs. Mine was delivered two weeks ago so it’s time now to move to the full review below.
What are the layers inside this mattress?
This mattress features 4 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- An Airgocell foam layer that is designed to remove the excess heat. Moreover, this type of foam can reduce pressure points.
- A layer made of 8-inch tall pocket springs that are the main source of support. They allow airflow so your mattress can breathe well.
- An HRX Supreme Foam layer that can distribute your weight evenly. This reduces the pressure points on your body so your spine and joints can rest better.
- An Emma base layer that helps prevent restless and active sleepers. Additionally, it improves edge support.
The Emma Original Hybrid mattress measures 25cm in height and the image below gives us a better look at how it looks from the inside. All layers comply with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 which means that they are free from any harmful substances.
Does it have a nice cover?
The cover of this mattress is made with UltraDry fabric that has the ability to regulate heat. It’s made of 99% polyester and 1% elastane. The latter ensures that the cover will have a nice fit which is important. The UltraDry cover is made of two parts. The upper one is white and it feels very soft. The bottom part is grey and it’s the base of the cover.
The good news is that it’s removable and all you have to do is unzip it. You can place it inside your washing machine so you can clean it with minimal effort. On the sides, they have added 4 handles that allow you to move it with ease. Overall, this is a great cover that combines good looks with practicality.
How firm is this mattress?
I am ready to continue writing this Emma Original Hybrid mattress review and discuss its feel. As a typical boxed mattress, it comes with a medium-firm feel. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say it’s a 6.7 with 10 being really firm. I want to talk now about my experience with this mattress during the past two weeks.
Lying on my back, the mattress distributed my weight evenly and that took the pressure away from my back and joints. I was comfortable in this position and I felt well supported.
Turning to the side position, the mattress springs adjusted quickly and sinkage increased. The latter helped my spine to align correctly and I didn’t feel any discomfort in the hip area.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress managed to support my hips and shoulders which is what is needed when lying this way. The sleeping surface had the right firmness and overall, I felt that this mattress would suit all sleeping positions.
The tall pocket springs and the base layer work well together so this mattress has good edge support. Moreover, there is some motion transfer but nothing too bad. As a result, the Emma Original Hybrid is a great option for couples.
Will I pay for delivery?
The good news here is that all Emma mattresses come with free delivery. They offer a relatively fast service that will usually take between 3-5 working days. I am based in Kuala Lumpur and I got my mattress within 3 days. I was well informed about the process via emails/texts and the courier arrived on time. The whole process was smooth and I didn’t face any issues. Overall, they offer a great service here which is something I expected from such a brand.
Can I try it first?
Many people don’t feel comfortable buying a mattress online so Emma decided to offer a 100-night trial period. This gives you more than 3 months to try it and decide later whether you are happy with it or not. If for any reason, you are not content, you can return it and get a full refund. The return process is free and all you have to do is contact their customer support department. I need to point out here that you don’t need to keep the original box to be able to complete a return.
Furthermore, all Emma mattresses come with a 10-year warranty which is the standard these days for most boxed mattresses. That means that you will be covered for a long time but it also shows that the people at Emma respect their customers. Overall, this is a complete package here so no complaints at all.
How much will it cost me?
The Original Hybrid mattress is a relatively affordable option so you won’t break the bank. There are 3 sizes available so options are quite limited. The smaller one (Single) sells for RM3,000 with the bigger one (King) going for RM5,600. Keep in mind that Emma runs frequent promotions so you will most probably pay less than that. Below, you will find all the available sizes and their prices.
SIZE | DIMENSIONS | PRICE |
Single | 190 x 90 X 25cm | RM3,000 |
Queen | 190 x 150 X 25cm | RM4,600 |
King | 190 x 180 X 25cm | RM5,600 |
Is the Emma Original Hybrid mattress a good buy?
This is the main question I need to answer before I complete this Emma Original Hybrid mattress review. I think that this would be a good option for anyone looking for:
- A hybrid mattress that will suit all sleeping positions.
- A cooling mattress that is built for the Malaysian climate.
- A mattress that comes with a 100-night trial period.
It’s not a coincidence that Emma has conquered the mattress world. They know how to build mattresses and the Original Hybrid is a prime example of that. It’s a mattress that ticks all the boxes and definitely one that I can recommend.
